SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Thursday still calls for hot conditions with mostly clear and sunny skies. Daytime highs will be mostly in the mid 80s to low 90s on the coast, in the 80s to upper 90s around the bay, and in the 100s inland. Overnight lows will be mostly in the 60s. While the NWS said it will be "a little cooler than yesterday," many places in higher elevations are still reporting lows only in the mid 80s, which is "very warm for this time of year." It will be a bit cooler in lower elevations with lows in the 60s. https://www.kron4.com/weather/san-jose-2-more-cities-set-record-temps-in-october-heat-wave/ According to KRON4 Meteorologist John Shrable, Thursday will bring the first signs of an eventual cooldown. "Some good news, a sea breeze does gradually kick back in starting today, moderating temperatures along the coat," Shrable said. "This gradual cooling trend will be something we see over the next week, temperatures subtly falling day-to-day into next week." Forecasters say hot and dry conditions are expected to continue with dangerous heat and potentially critical fire weather conditions for the remainder of the work week. Heat Risk levels will still remain elevated for Thursday ranging from moderate to extreme. Until 11 p.m. on Thursday, Excessive Heat Warning prevails over the Marin Coastal Range, Sonoma Coastal Range and North Bay Interior Mountains. Through 11 p.m. Friday, Excessive Heat Warning is raised over the San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley, and interior Monterey County. The North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Peninsula Coast, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay, and Big Sur Coast are under Heat Advisory until the same time. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management is warning that indoor temperatures can climb 10 degrees higher than outdoor temperatures and can last one to two days after heat subsides. The agency recommends: Staying somewhere cool Drinking plenty of water Wearing light clothing and hats Taking a shower Closing blinds during the day, opening blinds at night Avoiding being outside between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Avoiding strenuous activity Avoiding drinking sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and high-protein foods Bay City News contributed to this report.
