NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Mother Nature will turn up the furnace even more today with the high pressure system to the west allowing for even more-widespread record high temperatures today and while the very calm conditions have once again allowed for a relatively chilly morning in northern areas, morning temperatures are starting off a little bit higher for most areas from the Metro to the south. With very clear skies, light winds, and still mostly dry air, a few locations in the Northern Mountains are below the freezing mark this morning with near-normal morning temperatures, while mostly everywhere else is starting off in the 30s, 40s, 50s, and low 60s, a bit above normal for this time of the year. Forecast Continues Below News: ACLU suing former officers, APD over DWI corruption scheme Investigation: Arresting deputy refuses to testify in DWI license hearing Trending: 14 acres of the Albuquerque Bosque to close for restoration project With the high pressure system still to the west of the Four Corners trapping still just a little bit of moisture in the higher elevations, a few showers with rumbles of thunder are still possible from the Western Mountains to the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, but the sinking, stable air mass will still generally lead to very sunny skies, seasonably very warm air, and dry conditions elsewhere. Near-record to record afternoon temperatures are more likely for more areas today, as from the morning school commute on into the afternoon, temperatures will eventually reach into the high 60s, 70s, 80s, and low-to-mid 90s. However, the high pressure will pull the northeasterly upper-level winds partially down to the surface overnight in the form of a southwesterly-moving cool front that will kick up winds a bit by tomorrow morning, but morning temperatures and afternoon temperatures tomorrow will barely drop for many. Very clear skies with relatively chilly mornings and very warm afternoons will continue all the way through Balloon Fiesta Weekend with only a couple of very weak cold fronts kicking up winds a little bit from time to time, but rain will be hard to come by.
