HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The 64th annual Armenian Food Festival is returning to Henrico County on Friday and Saturday. Ahead of the festival, 8News got an inside look at all the cuisines attendees will be able to enjoy. In the morning on Thursday, Oct. 3, 8News anchors Delaney Hall and Autumn Childress spoke with organizer Marty Mooradian about the festival's history, as well as dishes and treats that will be on sale at the festival. "We're the longest-running food festival in the Richmond. You can expect great food, music dancing, beer, wine, and according to my ABC 8News weather app, great weather," Mooradian said. In terms of the festival's history, Mooradian shared that the festivities have expanded tremendously since it began. "It started off as a bake sale to raise funds for the congregation. It helped, in part, build the church, and it was indoors for a while, then we took it outdoors, and it's been one of those things that's been very well-received in the community," Mooradian said. He said that St. James Armenian Church, where the festival is held, is Virginia's only Armenian church. Though the community may be smaller, he said the culture is big, with attendees coming from locations like Charlottesville and the Tidewater area. "It's like a big extended family," Mooradian said. Mooradian brought a sample of a few cuisines to the studio that will be at the festival, including hummus and pita, baklava, kourabia -- an almond cookie -- and more. Mooradian also explained that a featured food at the festival will be the famous hye burger, which is a mixture of lamb and sirloin, which comes with onion and peppers on top. The festival will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Friday, Oct. 4 and Saturday, Oct. 5, with all festivities being held at the church, located at 834 Pepper Avenue in Henrico County
