Investigation underway after shots fired at federal agents in New Orleans East

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Officers with the New Orleans Police Department are investigating a shooting in New Orleans East on Thursday, Oct. 3.
The NOPD initially reported that shots were fired toward an officer who was responding to a service call in the 7000 block of Lawrence Road.

According to police, federal agents began investigating an aggravated kidnapping and armed robbery at the location on Lawrence Road, when the suspect allegedly shot at the agents before barricading himself in an apartment complex.
NOPD officials said no injuries have been reported at this time, and police are advising residents to avoid the area.
NOPD officials said Robert Russa Moton Charter School has been placed on lockdown as a precaution and police are communicating with school officials.
