KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- More National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Championships are coming to Kansas City over the next three years. The Kansas City Sports Commission & Foundation announced eight more NCAA Championships that are coming here Wednesday. Commission President & CEO Kathy Nelson read the cards that told a small crowd which NCAA championships will be coming to the city. "You know it's another great day for us to welcome more people to Kansas City," Nelson said to a crowd of reporters Wednesday afternoon. One of the people in attendance Wednesday was Kansas City Current President Raven Jemison. "This is exactly what we wanted when we thought or when the Longs and the Mahomes thought about what CPKC Stadium was going to be," Jemison said to a crowd of reporters. "It was the preeminent venue for ancillary events like this to come to Kansas City and showcase what this city is about, so it's exactly what we wanted all along." Besides the DI soccer event, some Division II championships, what's known as the Fall Festival, will be coming to the city in 2026. The Fall Festival includes field hockey, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball. Then, in the early spring of 2027, the Division I Men's Basketball Regional, better known as the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8, will be coming to the T-Mobile Center. "We've had so many championships over the years, but we never take it for granted," T-Mobile Center GM Jay Cooper said to a crowd of reporters. "This is going to be a special time in March coming right off the heels of the Big 12 Men's and Women's Tournament, and then we go right into NCAA Regionals." CPKC Stadium's also hosting the DII Men's and Women's Soccer Championships in 2026 as part of that Fall Festival.  Lee’s Summit airport name change draws concern from Kansas City leaders The Big 12 is co-hosting the Midwest Regional with the KC Sports Commission. As Cooper mentioned, this type of event isn't new to the T-Mobile or the other large arena in the city before T-Mobile existed. According to the Big 12 website, Hy-Vee Arena, formerly Kemper, hosted the Men's First and Second Rounds of the NCAA Basketball Tournament in 2001 and 2004. By the time the T-Mobile Center was built, formerly the Sprint Center, it hosted the First and Second Rounds in 2009. In 2017, it hosted the same Midwest Regional as what it will host in 2027. By the time the arena had been renamed the T-Mobile Center, it hosted the Men's Midwest Regional again in 2023.
