23-Year-Old Woman Dies in Pedestrian Collision near Camino Vida Roble CARLSBAD, CA (October 2, 2024) –Karla Guillen was killed early Tuesday morning, and Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz was arrested after a crash at the 2200 block of Las Palmas Drive. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 12:37 a.m., near Camino Vida Roble. According to reports, an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta was speeding when it collided with three other vehicles and also hit a woman who had just exited her car. The Volkswagen driver fled the scene without providing aid or notifying authorities. First responders arrived and pronounced the pedestrian, 23-year-old Guillen, dead at the scene. After an investigation, police located and arrested 26-year-old Cruz, of Carlsbad. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on charges of felony DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
