Family, dog displaced after house fire in Gaithersburg caused about $100k in damages

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (DC News Now) -- A family of eight and their dog were displaced after their home caught fire in Gaithersburg early Wednesday morning, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFS).
In a post on X, Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for the fire department, said around 5 a.m. on Oct. 2, units were called to Duvall Lane off of West Deer Park Road for a house fire.

Once on the scene, firefighters found heavy flames shooting through the roof of a two-story house.

Piringer said seven adults, one child and a dog escaped the fire and no one was hurt.
Officials said about 50 firefighters were on the scene.
In an update on Wednesday morning, Piringer said a vehicle power cord plugged into an outlet caused the fire.
The fire caused about $100,000 in damages.
