AUSTIN (KXAN) — A crash in northwest Austin Saturday left a 90-year-old passenger dead, the Austin Police Department announced in a Wednesday release.
The crash happened just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Great Hills Trail and North Capital of Texas Highway. Police identified the crash victim as Esther Saylee, 90.

According to police, an SUV ran a red light through the intersection and collided with a hatchback sedan as the sedan was driving through a green light.
Saylee, riding in the SUV, was pronounced dead at a local hospital, police said. Two other passengers from the SUV were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, APD said, adding the investigation is ongoing.
To date, Austin reported 67 fatal crashes in 2024, just below the 68 crashes recorded at this time last year.
