It is my pleasure to encourage your support for Ari Ioannides as a member of the Summit County Council. I experienced Ari’s skills in collaboration and listening when we worked together on the initial implementation of elementary coding in the Park City School District. In my position as the former principal at Trailside, 2010-14, I loved the idea of a future-focused, engaged curriculum that would be accessible to all students. As assistant superintendent for teaching, learning and technology in 2014-18, I oversaw the dual language programs, as well as the curricular implementation of the language, critical thinking, and problem-solving involved in coding. As a lifelong coder, Ari was able to communicate to benefits of coding for all, and it wasn’t long before I, along with our superintendent, school educational technology coaches and the district technology team, could also envision the impact of the program not only on students’ current learning, but also on the future application of skills learned beginning in first grade. We also were privileged to present Park City’s coding program at the annual Association for Curriculum and Supervision conference in 2019, which spurred the interest and growth in Boot Up.My middle granddaughter, Leah, was part of the original coding classes, and two years ago, her Lego First team in Oviedo, Florida, took second place in the state for their project, which is now going through the patent process. The competition not only involved coding their team-developed robots, but students also had to develop a practical solution for a real-life problem. I firmly believe that Ari’s ability to organize and implement the Park City Boot-Up program led to Leah’s continued participation in robotics and pre-engineering this year at Olympus High, and I have no doubt that countless other students in Park City and throughout the United States are using their coding skills.  I am confident that Ari will bring that level of future-focused problem solving and collaboration to the Summit County Council. As a voter who generally supports Democratic candidates, I also research all candidates to ensure the best person for the job. In this case, Ari’s intelligence, practical problem-solving, and ability to identify key issues to improve the lives of all Summit County citizens makes him the ideal candidate for the county council. A vote for Ari will be a vote for a better Summit County for all!Kathleen EinhornMurrayThe post Best for job appeared first on Park Record.
