FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – An earthquake rumbled in Fresno County on Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Federal officials say the earthquake was recorded at 5:45 p.m. PST and registered at a 4.0 magnitude. An earthquake of this magnitude can be felt but is considered minor and usually does not result in property damage, according to USGS. Earthquake recorded 16 miles outside Coalinga The epicenter of the earthquake was located about five miles outside of Coalinga; it ran about seven miles deep. According to a USGS intensity map, the quake could be felt as far north as Mariposa. No damage has been reported at this time. The world experiences approximately 10,000 earthquakes of this magnitude each year, according to USGS.
