CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The national grocery chain ALDI is opening a new Lowcountry location this week. Aldi at 856 Folly Road on James Island will welcome shoppers on Thursday, with doors opening at 9 a.m. Officials say the store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m..  In celebration of the opening, the first 100 customers will receive gift bags containing ALDI fan favorites and a gift car. From Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, customers can enter a sweepstakes for a $500 ALDI gift card. As part of the grand opening, the grocery chain will donate $1,000 to the Lowcountry Food Bank, helping to alleviate hunger in the local community. Excess grocery items will also be delivered to the area. “Our stores are designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster, and easier,” said Krysta Cearley, Salisbury vice president for ALDI. “We’re excited to open our first ALDI store in Charleston and introduce local customers to a new, more affordable way of shopping.”
