CARTER COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn ‘Mickey’ Stines is scheduled to appear in court in Morgan County on Tuesday, following his recent retirement announcement on Monday. Stines’s retirement comes after Governor Andy Beshear called for his resignation last week. In his resignation letter to the governor’s office, Stines stated that his decision to retire was not due to any ultimatum. Stines faces a murder charge for the September 19 shooting death of District Judge Kevin Mullins at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
