The Charlotte
2822 N Henderson Ave.
Before diving into the endless fast casual and out-of-state openings for the month, a moment for the Charlotte is from actual Dallasites who’ve been in the hospitality scene for a minute. It also brings an establishment Henderson Avenue could use more of a relaxed American bistro. The team behind it is culinary director Wyl Lima (formerly executive chef at Sister) and operating partner Kimberly O’Neal (formerly of Hillstone). Head in for biryani spiced wings, lamb chimichurri, spaghetti and catfish, and crab fried rice.
Las Favela
7260 Gaston Ave.
This family-owned Mexican spot from sisters Elvira and Josefina Favela, and Natalie, the daughter of Josefina, took over a spot in Lakewood, CultureMap reports. Check it out for tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, and much more.
Tres Amigos Tacos & Tequila
909 W. Magnolia Ave. in Fort Worth
Grab some tacos at this place from Sandy Rankin, who took her inspiration from working with the late chef Paul Willis, CultureMap reports. At his request, she used his recipe book to preserve his legacy in the food and by opening at the location of his former Yucatan Taco Stand.
San Marzano
3700 McKinney Avenue, Suite 148
This New York restaurant made its way to Dallas’s West Village in September. It is known for house-made pasta and bread at a fast casual price point. Diners mix and match the pasta of their choice (think rigatoni, pappardelle, spaghetti, and more with wheat and gluten-free options) with the sauce they like and add on meats, cheeses, and veg a la carte. It’s $14 a bowl, with some additional charges for extras. Simple and cost effective, it’s open for lunch and dinner.
Rachel’s Kitchen
3620 The Star Blvd., #1200 in Frisco
Add it to the list at the Star: this fast casual chain from Vegas hits Frisco. This cafe does breakfast sammies, juices, salads, sandwiches, wraps, and pasta. For fall, it’s also a spot to hit for soups and coffee.
Local Public Eatery
2323 N Henderson Ave., #100
Henderson gets a buzzy new spot that made quite the splash on social media with its opening. This one is billed as the sister restaurant to Joey in NorthPark Center, and comes from the same hospitality group out of Canada. It is betting big on its cocktail menu and happy hour offerings — and by betting big, we mean this is a 7,144-square-foot space. Head in for comfort food, from burgers to steak with fries (not, underlined, steak frites) and a selection of pizzas.
Local Public
Talkin’ Tacos
8442 Parkwood Blvd. in Plano
Here we have a fast casual taco spot in Plano, from Florida. Did we need to bring Florida tacos to Texas? Debatable. Do we need a box of tacos? Probably.
Talkin’ Tacos
Due Cucina
1900 Abrams Pkwy.
An Italian fast casual restaurant originating in Seattle opened in Lakewood. It’s another mix-and-match with pasta, sauce, cheese options, and several other dishes.
Doughbird
5560 W Lovers Ln., #260
More fast casualness, this time in a lunch and dinner spot from the Sam Fox Hospitality group out of Phoenix that has also opened Culinary Dropout and the Henry in Dallas, and Flower Child all over DFW. This spot, over in West Dallas, is good. Pizza is the specialty, but the menu goes deeper, with sandwiches, pasta, salads, and entrees like grilled salmon and roast chicken.
Kathy Tran
Bikanervala
1080 W. LBJ Fwy., #110 in Las Colinas
Its an Indian chain from Delhi, serving all vegetarian meals. Head in for South Indian and Indo-Chinese dishes, including rava dosa, uttapam, chili garlic noodles, fried rice, and more.
Anchor Bar
2150 E. Lamar Blvd., #110 in Arlington
It is not an Arlington outpost for the Vandaly Hospitality group local seafood chain. It’s a Buffalo chain that, inexplicably given its name, serves chicken wings. Game day, meet game food.
