BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Another interstate killing in Baton Rouge has left a 22-year-old man dead after he was shot to death while driving on I-10 early Sunday morning. Just last week, BRProud uncovered shocking statistics about road rage violence in Baton Rouge. According to Gun Violence Archive, Baton Rouge ranks second in the state for highway shootings. This latest incident claimed the life of 22-year-old Erik Dorsey. On Sept. 15, 39-year-old Teressa Calligan, a wife, mother and community leader, was shot while driving. Several similar road rage and highway shootings have occurred since the beginning of August, claiming lives. BRPD said the shootings are either targeted or road rage incidents. We talked with a community activist who says the interstates and roadways in Baton Rouge are not safe. How does Baton Rouge road rage, highway shooting crime data compare with Louisiana, US? "I am in fear. Leaving home, you have to wonder if you're going to get back. And I have a teenager, so I leave home, when I come back home, she's there. What if I never come back?" said Elissa Boudreaux, a Baton Rouge nonviolence advocate. BRPD maintains the roadways are safe. They say slowing down and practicing patience can make a difference in preventing road rage incidents and advise calling 911 if you feel threatened.
