ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Village of Spencerport held a ribbon cutting for its new Merz Park parking lot Monday. Located at 22 Canal Street, right next to the lift bridge, it was originally a vacant lot that was used during the construction of the village's lift bridge. It will now be used by the many local businesses. "Our businesspeople always come to us and ask us for more parking, so we had the chance to purchase this lot here," Spencerport Mayor Gary Penders said. "It was a vacant lot that sat here. So we decided to turn it into a parking lot to help out our businesspeople, and to keep our vibrant business area well attended for everything that goes on down there." The mayor also revealed plans to bring back the village's old bridgetender tower that was part of the lift bridge in the past, and put in on display near the newer bridge.
