SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- On Monday, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria announced city crews have made progress on road repairs and record investments in street paving. One of the projects took place along 2.3 miles of Beyer Way in Otay Mesa Monday morning, which has been deemed one of the worst-quality roads in San Diego. MTS debuts new ‘Copper’ Trolley line in East County In a street assessment conducted last year, the road was graded "poor" with a score of 12.8 on a scale of zero to 100, with zero being the worst quality, the city said. "Since the beginning of my administration, I'm here today to announce we have repaired 1,650 miles of roadway," Gloria said in a press conference. "That is one quarter of the city's entire network of 6,600 miles in less than four years." "To put that in some perspective, we have repaired the distance it would take you to get from here to Little Rock, Arkansas, roughly two-thirds across this entire country of smooth streets," he added. The city has allocated $140 million for road repairs in the 2024 fiscal year budget. During Monday's conference, Gloria acknowledged road repairs in various areas including cul-de-sacs are also in need of improvements, but said his administration is focusing their investments on fixing the most heavily trafficked streets to have "the most impact on the most San Diegans." KUSI's Ed Lenderman contributed to this report.
