BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services hosted a Recovery Resource Fair Saturday afternoon, to close out substance recovery month. The free event was held Sept. 28 at Mill Creek Park, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. People at the event honored the lives lost to substance use, celebrated those in recovery and provided resources to people curious about beginning their recovery journey. "Recovery is one of those things that involves a lot of changes and change is difficult," said Ana Olvera, an administrator with Kern Behavioral Health. "So knowing that there's others that have done this, it provides a little bit of inspiration to be able to take the next step." 1 killed after vehicle collision on East Truxtun Avenue: BPD In 2023, opioid overdoses led to 193 hospitalizations, 719 emergency department visits and 319 deaths in Kern County.
