RICHMOND, Ind — A woman who was struck by a train in Richmond on Sunday has died. In a Facebook post, the Richmond Police Department reported that its officers responded to the Norfolk and Southern Railway near North 12th and "E" Streets around 12:41 p.m. on a report of a crash involving a pedestrian and Norfolk and Southern train. When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman — later identified as 73-year-old Carolyn Sue Rose — injured. Rose was taken to Reid Health in Richmond, where she ultimately died. After a preliminary investigation, police determined Rose walked directly in the path of the train for unknown reasons. RPD indicated that it has not found any signs of foul during its investigation thus far. “Our hearts are broken over this devastating loss,” Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly wrote in a prepared statement that was posted on Facebook. “Ms. Rose was a member of our community, and this tragedy is felt deeply by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”
