GENERATE PRESSURE ON NIX The key to forcing mistakes when facing a young QB is getting consistent pressure on them throughout the game. Sunday’s game against the Broncos will be no different for the Jets’ defense. Through three games, Broncos QB Bo Nix has thrown for 600 yards, no touchdowns and four interceptions. Denver’s offensive line has also done an excellent job protecting him, as the rookie has only been sacked four times. After not playing to their standard in Week 1 against the 49ers, the Jets defense has registered a combined 11 sacks in their Week 2 and 3 wins vs. the Titans and Patriots. If Gang Green, particularly defensive end Will McDonald, can get pressure on Nix, the secondary could benefit with a few turnovers. CONTINUE TO SLOW DOWN THE RUSH Stopping the run has been a point of emphasis for the Jets’ defense the last two weeks, and they answered the bell against the Patriots. Entering Week 3, Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson was fifth in the league in rushing. However, the Jets held him to just 23 yards on six carries. A young quarterback’s best friend is a potent rushing attack, and Broncos coach Sean Payton will likely try to find ways to expose a Jets defense that has occasionally given up explosive run plays. If Gang Green’s defense can continue its success from Week 3, that will likely put the Broncos and Nix into several third-and-long situations. GIVE RODGERS A CLEAN POCKET The Jets’ offensive line has been one of the best in the NFL through the first three weeks. Much of that has to do with how they’ve protected Aaron Rodgers thus far. But the Jets will have a new offensive line combination this week. Right tackle Morgan Moses is out due to a knee injury he suffered against the Patriots. Rookie first-round pick Olu Fashanu will make his first career start at a position he doesn’t have a lot of experience at. Fashanu was drafted to be a left tackle but replaced Moses and played 14 snaps against the Patriots and didn’t allow a sack or commit a penalty. If Fashanu and the Jets O-line can continue that strong play, Rodgers should be able to get the ball to his playmakers down the field.
