SURRY COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) -- A Surry County man is grateful things are not worse after a tree fell on his home during Friday's storm. While watching a storm roll through Surry County Friday morning, David Sams chose to step outside his home off Badgett Farm Trail when a strong gust of wind caused a large tree to land on his home. "And the next thing I know, boom! And this piece of sheet rock hit me in the shoulder," Sams said. The home sustained damage to the roof and living room, but Sams wasn't hurt. "I was scared … to death," Sams said. Sams didn't call the police. He did call crews to help remove the tree. Sams plans to rebuild his trailer and stay somewhere else until the repairs can be made. He did have a word of advice for other home owners if they find themselves in this situation. "Count your blessings ... If you have a tree in your yard that's too tall, cut it down,"Sams said. A GoFundMe has been set up.
