ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Helene made landfall as a powerful CAT 4 hurricane late Thursday. But tropical systems can come in all shapes and sizes, and it's not always directly correlated to the category. Sure, Helene was strong. But Helene was also LARGE. Now interacting with an upper level low, the injection of Helene's moisture has allowed for a remarkably large wingspan of cloud cover to develop. Outflow clouds spread from east Texas all the way to Boston with clouds for many in between. In fact, I can count at least 30 states dealing with at least some cloud cover sourced from Helene. Put another way, more than half of the United States can look up right now and see at least some cloud cover. The leftover core of moisture will remain stubbornly slow to move over the next several days. It is likely we'll still be talking about post-Helene clouds and showers across parts of the Great Lakes and New England all the way into next week.
