SAVANNAH, GA (WSAV)—Across our region, people are now in clean up mode after Hurricane Helene. The Coastal Empire was not in Hurricane Helene’s direct path. However, Savannah is experiencing some of the damaging effects such as downed power lines and trees, power outages and damaged property. News 3 spent time speaking to neighbors about how they plan on getting things back to normal. We spoke to Kenneth Patterson, as he tidied up the yard of a home. “The property was really bad from the hurricane,” Patterson said. “So right now, we got it back to where it needs to be.” As early as sunrise, neighbors began the cleanup process by using leaf blowers, rakes and chainsaws.  Working as quickly as possible, they told me their goal is to get their property back in tip-top shape. GALLERY: Local storm damage due to Tropical Storm Helene Michelle Solomon spent Friday morning cleaning. She told WSAV that she didn’t expect such severe damage. “I woke up 3:30 [a.m.] when those winds were going like crazy,” Solomon said. “I am like I think I don’t want to be next to a window anymore.” Neighbors were also lending each other a helping hand to clear the wreckage.
