Tornado watch issued for southern, central and tidewater areas of Virginia

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Multiple localities throughout Virginia's southern, central and tidewater areas are under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. on Friday due to impacts from Tropical Storm Helene.
According to the National Weather Service, a tornado watch means that tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. This is different from a warning, which would mean that a tornado has been sighted or indicated by weather radar.
The following areas are under a tornado watch until 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27:
Appomattox County
Brunswick County
Buckingham County
Emporia
Williamsburg
Dinwiddie County
Greensville County
James City County
Lunenburg County
Mecklenburg County
Nottoway County
Prince Edward County
Sussex County
Essex County
Northumberland County
Richmond County
Westmoreland County
