(WPDE) — The 12-year-old Carvers Bay Middle School student admitted to making school threats earlier this week during a juvenile detention hearing on Thursday in Georgetown County Family Court.
He was allowed to return home under the supervision of the SC Dept. of Juvenile Justice.
Judge Melissa Buchanan ordered a community evaluation for the 12-year-old after he sent the threatening text messages on Monday.
In the messages, the student displayed a weapon with a high-capacity magazine. He told the judge that he was being bullied at school and over-reacted.
The state has recommended that he remain in custody for a secure evaluation at the Dept. of Juvenile Justice in Columbia before sentencing, and Judge Buchanan denied this request.
The judge ordered his psychiatric evaluation while adhering to the rules of his supervision. He will also be continuing his education from home under DJJ supervision.
Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office has retained the weapon shown in the image threats. The juvenile’s mother surrendered the weapon.
