BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Wide receiver Mack Hollins already had a track record of getting involved with the community during his time with four previous teams. That’s not changing now that he’s with the Bills. “Especially coming to Buffalo, you know, there’s a strong history of community and the city loving the team,” said Hollins. “So doing stuff that is around the community and around people and can help people the most that I can is really a big emphasis throughout my career.” He’s already found one cause to get involved with here. Buffalo struggles with food insecurity. Hollins has long been passionate about using sustainable farming to address the issue. “To have people within our country and not have access to food, and even more than that quality food that you can actually have nutrition coming from it, that shouldn’t be a problem,” said Hollins. So being able to fix that, and it’s very fixable, is really important to me. I shouldn’t be driving down the road and, you know, go two, three miles without seeing a grocery store or ap lace where you can get quality food.” Bills Make Me Wanna Give: Ja’Marcus Ingram growing his role on and off the field Hollins continues his involvement with previous causes as well, such as Special Olympics, which he serves as a global ambassador. “When I was a young kid I had a neighbor that was in the Special Olympics,” said Hollins. “Then in college I had a best friend whose brother was in the Special Olympics. And it’s kind of grown and grown and grown.” Hollins also has a following on social media, where he posts frequent challenges that get people to learn about a wide variety of topics, from dance moves to home maintenance. “I know I have a platform while I’m a player and I want to take advantage of that,” said Hollins. “I want to show people that being smart or being educated at school, it’s not, you know, even athletes do it. Even guys in the NFL do it. Like, it’s okay to be smart. It’s okay to be the smartest kid in the school or educated about things, but it’s also okay to learn things.” Latest Local News Hamburg man gets probation for stealing over $300K from dead relative’s estate ‘Party with a purpose’: 5th BASH for Mercy Flight returning to RiverWorks What were these WNY stores before they were Spirit Halloween stores? $150K in damages estimated from fire on Brownell Street Mammothon 2024: Goal to get 525 women signed up for mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month Scott Patterson is a co-anchor on News 4 Wake Up!
