NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - One Hamilton County community is making way for a brand-new space for law enforcement.After sitting empty for nearly 15 years, the former Firestone tire factory lot will soon be transformed into a state-of-the-art police headquarters in Noblesville. 50 workers to be transferred Hancock Health in midst of changes to revenue cycle team Noblesville police have shared the current building on 9th Street with the fire department since 1992.“The city of Noblesville had only 20,000 people living in the city,” said Deputy Mayor Matt Light. "We're up to over 75,000 now.”The current facility was built to hold around 30 officers, and now Chief John Mann said they're up to more than 100. “There's no wasted space in this building, as you can imagine, every little inch of the building has been utilized,” said Mann.In order to accommodate the growth, the department will be moving about a half mile east onto Division Street to protect and serve.“We want to be as centrally located to the new development growth that's happening now to what's going to be happening 10 years from now,” said Mann. "So we love the position of it because it keeps us in the heart of Noblesville.”With the site being a former manufacturing plant, the city said the area they've acquired has been deemed safe by the EPA for their plans. They are also keeping in mind the future growth for all first responders. Eastbound lanes of County Line Road in Greenwood blocked by crash “The fire department has growth needs as well, so we expect that they'll utilize some portion of the building," said Light.The project is set to begin construction in mid 2025 and hopefully be operating by early 2027. With the surrounding area slightly underdeveloped, the city hopes that the new police department will make way for new growth.
