(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On November 5, registered voters in Colorado Springs will have the opportunity to vote on three City related ballot measures. Ballot Issue 2C would renew the 2C Road Improvement program for 10 years at the current voter-approved sales tax rate of 0.57 percent (5.7 pennies on a $10 purchase). Colorado Springs voters first approved the sales tax in 2015 and renewed it in 2019.  According to the City, since the 2C program started in 2016, the number of Colorado Springs roads in “good” condition has nearly doubled and the number of citizen pothole complaints have gone down by more than 50%. Ballot Question 2D would amend the Charter of the City of Colorado Springs to prohibit retail marijuana establishments within City limits.  Ballot Question 300 would amend City ordinance to allow existing medical marijuana licensees to apply to become licensed as retail/recreational marijuana businesses. Retailers would still be subject to all applicable taxes, including the existing 5% sales tax on retail/recreational marijuana. The ballot question would also codify several violations and penalties, including prohibiting any retail/recreational marijuana business within 1,000 feet of a public or private daycare, preschool or K-12 school, prohibiting the sale or transfer of retail/recreational marijuana to any person under 21.  Ballot language for each question and issue can be found at ColoradoSprings.gov/VoterInfo.
