AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Grab the rain coat! Our best chance of rain between now and the end of the month comes later this evening. Spotty to scattered showers and storms are likely to develop beginning this afternoon and continuing through evening and early night. The risk of storms turning severe is low but a few downpours could bring a quick 0.5"-1"+ of rain producing isolated localized flooding. The majority of us who do see rain will likely fall short of 0.25". A few spotty showers are likely to linger tomorrow before a cold front clears our area later in the day. Drier air filling in behind this front will allow for cooler nights and less humid days. Overnight lows will fall to the mid-60s bringing back a fall-like feel. Temperatures will drop to end the week, but bounce back this weekend with mid 90s by Sunday. Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 Potential Tropical Cyclone 9, the term given to a system that is not yet a tropical storm but is expected to be and will impact land the next 48 hours, is strengthening in the Caribbean. TROPICAL TIMELINE: Potential Tropical Cyclone #9 What is expected to be Tropical Storm Helene later this morning will bring strong winds, heavy rain and flooding concerns to the Yucatan Peninsula and parts of Cuba. Once in the Gulf, this storm will further intensify, expected to become Hurricane Helene by the time it makes landfall on Thursday. While changes to the track are to be expected, right now the Big Bend of Florida is firmly within the cone of uncertainty for a potential landfall later in the day on Thursday. BLOG: First freeze?
