So far this week, the forecast has been rinse and repeat, as we have dealt with similar conditions from yesterday to today. Areas of fog, mist, and scattered showers greeted us this morning, and the only change since then is that the fog and mist have cleared up for some of us. Those to the west in the higher terrain will have the most difficulty improving visibility with damp conditions continuing. Scattered showers are expected to continue on and off this evening before some steadier waves of rain cross through overnight. Most of this heavier rain will occur from 10 PM through the early morning hours, so it shouldn't cause any disruptions. This soggy pattern will continue into Wednesday as the fronts and storm system responsible for causing all this finally start moving. Pockets of steadier rain will still be around in the morning, but the later we get, the drier it will be for most of us. Scattered showers will be possible, but most of the afternoon will be rain-free as the storm system heads out. From today through Wednesday, 1-2" of rain is expected, which should be more beneficial than anything with the ongoing drought. Thursday is likely our only dry day of the week, with mostly cloudy skies still expected. Temperatures slowly rebound as it dries out, with readings only in the upper 60s today, rebounding back into the lower 80s by Thursday afternoon. In the tropics, Tropical Storm Helene has formed in the western Caribbean, and it's expected to impact the Big Bend of Florida on Thursday as a major hurricane. This tropical system will play a role in how our forecast shapes up toward the end of the week. No significant impacts are expected from Helene here in the DMV, but depending on where its remnants track, we could see some tropical showers and storms Friday into Saturday. Scattered to isolated rain chances have been put into the forecast for the end of the week to account for this, and we'll be keeping an eye on this part of the forecast closely over the next few days. Slightly drier conditions will be possible soon after the tropical moisture clears out. Stay dry, and have a great rest of your Tuesday! 7-Day Forecast: Today: Cloudy with scattered showers and drizzle.
