GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — On Tuesday, vote-by-mail ballots across North Carolina will be sent out. It’s been about a two-week delay since ballots needed to be reprinted after Robert F. Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race. It has been a busy few weeks for the board of elections offices across the state. About 9,000 ballots will go out on the first day in Guilford County and about 8,000 will be sent out in Forsyth County. 2 GOP governors pull support for Mark Robinson Now, the deadline is in your hands, to get your completed ballot back in time, by Election Day. “As soon as you get it, fill it out, get your two witnesses, every voter is going to need two witnesses, figure out the ID portion and mail that thing as soon as possible or bring it in to the board of elections office or bring it to an early voting site, not an election day polling place but also know that deadline is tight so get going,” said Charlie Collicutt, the Guilford County Board of Elections Director. If you are voting by mail, you will need a photocopy of your ID. If you don’t have access to one, there is an exception form to fill out. The board of elections said they don’t expect any major issues after this process went smoothly in the primary, but make sure you start the process early so you can fix any issues that might come up. There is still time to request an absentee ballot, you have until October 29, but if you plan to vote by mail, the Board of Elections office says don’t wait. Those ballots are due back to the Board of Elections office either in person or by mail on November 5 at 7:30 p.m. Or you can drop it off at one of the 28 early voting sites that will open across Guilford County on Oct.17. At this point, it is hard to say if the delay in mail ballots will impact voter turnout. Guilford County officials say that with 9,000 ballots out on day one, is higher than a typical general election. There is a lot for voters to decide this election. In addition to some of the high-profile races like for President and North Carolina Governor, there is a question for Guilford County voters about an increase in sales tax. The proposal is a quarter-cent increase. If approved by voters, it is expected to bring in about $25 million in revenue each year. That money would be used to raise teacher salaries and increase compensation for other employees like school bus drivers, cafeteria workers and janitors. Now, it’s in the hands of the voters. The first wave will get their ballots very soon. “We brought in about double of what we had brought in in the first wave to get these ballots out and staff, we worked really hard to get these proofs to the vendor to push the vendor to really stay on top of everything to really map out every day, wherever we could get ahead we did,” Collicutt said.
