POWELL, Ohio (WCMH) -- The Columbus Zoo's newest addition now has a name. The Zoo announced Tuesday the new baby gorilla that was born on June 29 has been named Mara. The new little girl is continuing to grow and get stronger under the care of her mother Sue, a 19-year-old western lowland gorilla who arrived in central Ohio in 2014. Ohio spending $5.5M in taxes on private schools’ renovations This is Sue's first baby with Ktembe, 27, being the “experienced” father. Mara was the 35th gorilla born at the Columbus Zoo. The date of the announcement is significant with Sept. 24 serving as World Gorilla Day according to the World Wildlife Fund. "Our expert Animal Care team remains dedicated to providing the best possible care for Mara and the entire gorilla family, ensuring they thrive while we continue to build a better future for this amazing species," said the Zoo in a statement.
