Josh Allen will likely be the early leader in the MVP discussion as the Bills played one of their best halves of football in franchise history, taking a 34-3 halftime lead on their way to a dominant 47-10 win. Allen finished with 263 yards passing and four first half touchdowns. He also added 44 yards on the ground. Allen completed passes to ten different receivers. Khalil Shakir topped the pass catchers with six catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. He was one of six different Bills players who reached the end zone. James Cook had 87 total yards and added a rushing touchdown. Not only did Joe Brady's 'Everyone Eats' offense do a good job getting all the Bills weapons to the table, most of them left with a full belly. On defense, Damar Hamlin registered his first career interception. The Bills added four sacks from four different players and did not allow a touchdown until the game was long out of reach. The Bills took the opening kickoff and immediately needed to convert a 4th and 3 just across midfield. Brady called a version of the same play that converted a fourth down last week against the Dolphins. In Miami, Curtis Samuel circled in motion and Cook popped out wide open to convert. This time, Khalil Shakir was the motion and he also leaked into the flat for a 12 yard gain. An Allen QB draw gained nine yards on 3rd and 5 at the Jags 15 yard line. Cook scored on a six yard run to the outside on the next play to give Buffalo the early lead. The extra point was blocked, so the Bills had to settle for a 6-0 advantage. After a quick Jags three and out, the Bills rolled right back down the field for another TD and Dalton Kincaid was the star. Kincaid got loose for a 28 yard catch on 3rd and 3 that got Buffalo to the Jacksonville 20. Allen used a QB sneak to keep the drive alive on a 4th and 1 at the 11 yard line and then bought time on third and goal from the six until Kincaid broke wide open along the back line of the end zone for the touchdown. The PAT was unmolested this time and Buffalo had a 13-0 lead. Jacksonville got on the board with a field goal on their second possession, but it took maximum effort to get there. Travis Etienne claimed the Jags' first first down with a two yard run on 4th and 1. Jacksonville converted a pair of short third downs to get near the red zone, but the drive stalled just outside the Bills 20. Gabe Davis caught a deep throw near the goal line on third and nine, but he was well out of bounds with Rasul Douglas in coverage. Buffalo just kept rolling. A throw to a wide open Cook on third and 1 netted eight yards and then Cook leaked untouched out of the backfield for a 17 yard gain. Allen rushed for 11 when the center of the D-Line parted on 3rd and 11. The next snap was a 24 yard touchdown pass to Keon Coleman, the first in the NFL for the rookie. Coleman did not play a snap in the first quarter, but he still gave the Bills a 20-3 lead. Damar Hamlin followed with his first career interception on the next drive. It was a pass Lawrence badly overthrew. Hamlin returned the pick 19 yards and set Buffalo up on the Jacksonville 41. The Bills made it 4-for-4 with first half touchdowns when Allen found Shakir crossing on 3rd and 9. Shakir was able to pinball in for a 28-yard touchdown and a 27-3 Bills lead. The rout was on. Ja'Marcus Ingram got a sack on a blitz to short circuit the next Jaguars drive. After a punt, the Bills used 25 yards of Jaguars penalties to move inside the red zone. With 19 seconds to go, Allen found Ty Johnson for a 16 yard TD. It was the fourth different receiver and the 5th different Bills player to score a touchdown in the first half. One of the best 30 minutes of Bills football of all time ended with Buffalo in front 34-3. The Jags finally found the end zone to open the second half. Tank Bigsby converted a 4th and 1 before Lawrence found Christian Kirk with a 24 yard gain. Brenton Strange caught the TD pass from six yards out. Buffalo had the steamroller working on their first possession of the second half. Mack Hollins became Buffalo's 10th different receiver in the game. Allen had three scrambles for 22 yards, but the drive actually stalled inside the Jacksonville ten yard line on a third down incomplete pass. For the first time in the game, Buffalo did not score a touchdown and had to settle for a short Tyler Bass field goal. It was 37-10. Jacksonville threatened to make the game somewhat interesting, getting inside the Bills ten yard line on their next possession. However, two false starts backed the Jags into a fourth and goal from the 18 yard line and Von Miller snuffed the threat with his third sack of the year. After a fumble by back-up QB Mack Jones in Jacksonville territory, the Bills punched it in once again with a two-yard run by Ray Davis to make the score 47-10. The Bills stopped the Jags on a fourth down throw to the end zone with under a minute remaining, before Trubisky took a knee to end the game. Final score, Bills 47-10.
