MANHATTAN (KSNT) - Six years after creating a plan, Manhattan Parks and Recreation will soon break ground on a 76.5-acre park southwest of the Little Apple. After years of creating a master plan, Rover Schultz Community Park is seeing some action. According to a news release from the City of Manhattan Friday, a groundbreaking will take place in October to kick off phase one of the project. The park's master plan was developed by Manhattan Parks and Recreation, working with the National Park Service, and later adopted by the City Commission in 2018. It states park improvements will be split into four phases spanning several years. K-State QB surpasses first fundraising goal for high school principal Phase one focuses on making standalone improvements to the Loma Ridge entrance to create "basic park access" to prepare the entry points for future park amenities, according to the master plan. Phases two through four will focus on adding amenities to the entrances, trails and scenic overlooks throughout the park in the coming years. The groundbreaking ceremony for phase one will take place at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the Loma Ridge Entry, located at 810 Loma Ridge Drive. For more local news, click here.
