CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Caroline County residents should be on the lookout for a scam caller impersonating a fake sheriff's deputy, according to authorities. On Monday, Sept. 23, the Caroline County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) issued a statement regarding reports of scam phone calls in the county. According to the sheriff's office, the scammer identifies themselves as "Deputy Evans" and demand that residents return their calls. "Please note that we have no association with Deputy Evans and the CCSO will NEVER contact you by phone to inform you about any outstanding warrants," said the sheriff's office in the statement. Human remains found in northeastern Buckingham County According to the sheriff's office, the scammer is reportedly calling from a number with an 804 area code that ends in 8568.
