CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Chesterfield Fire and EMS has released information and data in a video that outlines their unique, innovative and collaborative approach to firefighting. According to the agency, in the span of 50 years they have grown into an all-hazards response agency with 600 career professionals and 150 volunteer responders that operate from 23 fire and EMS stations as well as 4 volunteer rescue squads. They also have a multitude of roles to offer, including operations within ladder trucks, tech rescue, a paramedic program, a specialty team, scuba rescue and an incident management team. Chesterfield has seen a decent amount of population growth over the past couple years -- adding more residents than any other single locality in Virginia, according to the agency. As a result of the increase in population, there has been an increase in demand for fire and EMS services. Throughout the last year, Chesterfield Fire and EMS answered over 51,000 incidents -- with 80% of them being medically related, according to the agency. Recently, they have partnered with the Virginia Army Air National Guard to establish the Helicopter Aquatic Rescue Team (HART) program. The HART program is the only one of its kind in the state of Virginia, capable of being deployed anywhere in the state, or even the continental U.S., to assist in rescues of people trapped in flooding situations as well as climbers in the greater Shenandoah Valley area.
