(WANE) — When you step inside the Silver Screen Cinema in Garrett, expect to be transported almost 80 years back in time. "It's been here since 1939; it is the oldest indoor theater in the county," said Bruce Babbit, longtime owner of the theater. In Your Hometown: The organization clothing the Garrett community for over 10 years It's one of the last single screen theaters of its kind, sitting up to 300 people at once, but with changing technology Babbitt had to close its doors 10 years ago because of digital conversion. "I didn't think the support at the time didn't merit that kind of an investment." In Your Hometown: Garrett Historic District After a decade of sitting vacant, earlier this month, they reopened their doors for the first time. "...it's a classic, and it's time to revive it. We're kind of in a unique period in time where I think people are actually looking at us as a good value." Tickets are $4 dollars for kids and $6 dollars for adults, and though they may not have the amenities as the big-name brand theaters such as AMC, you can still find all the charm that the building had to offer all those years ago. "we're not cookie cutter. You know, every small-town theater is different. It's a piece of history... it needs to be preserved." For more information on the theater, click here.
