BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- He wouldn't let up. Juan Luis Imperial spent nearly a year venting anger against his ex-girlfriend by making threatening calls -- sometimes dozens a day -- to employees at the Bakersfield motel where she worked, prosecutors say. Man dies from stab wounds Saturday: BPD Two calls in particular alarmed authorities. In the first, Imperial told a front desk worker he knew what time her boyfriend picked her up -- and that her children would be in the vehicle. He threatened to ram the vehicle with his own, saying he'd target the side on which the children were sitting, prosecutors say. A week later, Imperial called and threatened to assault the front desk worker, then called the manager directly and said he was heading to the motel to "shoot it up," according to prosecutors. On Friday, Imperial, 49, was sentenced to 13 years in prison after being found guilty of two counts of criminal threats and one count of attempted criminal threats. "For far too long, Imperial not only targeted his former romantic partner, but also created an atmosphere of fear for those around her," District Attorney Cynthia Zimmer said in a release. "It became clear that no one was safe, but thankfully this sentence serves as protection for many." Imperial has prior convictions for drug possession, burglary and spousal abuse, according to court records.
