Scattered showers through midweek with cooler nights
Sep 23, 2024
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Very few showers continue to fall over parts of Central Texas as a cold front has moved through most of the Hill Country.
Temperatures southeast of the front are in the 90s, but behind the front the numbers are barely in the 70s!
Checking our area rain totals
A few spotty showers will remain possible this evening either side of the front, while most of us remain dry.
Showers Tuesday and Wednesday
This cold front will linger around the area on Tuesday bringing scattered showers and isolated downpours to the area. Roughly half of Central Texas should see measurable rain on Tuesday, but most of us won't see more than a quarter inch.
Scattered showers possible Tuesday
Some showers and storms may linger into Wednesday before the cold front fully clears Central Texas later in the day on Wednesday.
Plan on cooler nights and less humid days behind the front with lows dropping into the mid 60s by Friday morning!
Lows the next few nights
Temperatures will drop to end the week, but bounce back this weekend with mid 90s by Sunday.
Highs the next few days in Austin
Potential Tropical Cyclone 9
The National Hurricane Center began issuing advisories on Potential Tropical Cyclone #9, which is expected to eventually become Hurricane Helene.
PTC 9 should get the name Helene later this evening or Tuesday morning as it strengthens into a tropical storms and then a hurricane.
While changes to the track are to be expected, right now the Big Bend of Florida is firmly within the cone of uncertainty for a potential landfall later in the day on Thursday.
PTC 9 expected to become Major Category 3 Hurricane (named Helene)
