Skokie and Lincolnwood emergency teams responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a cyclist on Saturday night, according to Skokie police. Police say a 17-year-old was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Touhy Avenue over the Edens Expressway on Saturday around 11 p.m. The bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital, and their condition was listed as stable, according to police. The driver and the vehicle remained at the scene of the crash, police said. Other police departments in the ILEAS (Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System) mutual aid system responded and assisted Skokie Police with directing traffic. The NORTAF MCAT (North Regional Major Crimes Task Force, Major Crash Assistance Team) was activated and is assisting the Skokie Police Department with the investigation, according to Skokie Police. Previously in Skokie, a 27-year-old man died three weeks after being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Gross Point Road and Skokie Boulevard on July 24. In August, a 37-year-old cyclist was also killed in a hit and run involving two vehicles in the 3500 block of Oakton Street. One of the vehicles and its driver waited for authorities to show up, and the other vehicle and driver fled the area, according to Skokie police. Two more cyclists were killed in Morton Grove and Glenview this summer, and an 85-year-old man was killed crossing the street in Niles, according to local police departments.
