Park City wants to make a splash with a recreation project.City Hall is preparing to rebuild the pool area at the Park City Municipal Athletic & Recreation Center. The work is designed to update pools that are more than 20 years old. The existing leisure pool dates to 2003 while the existing lap pool, with six lanes, was built in 1990.The project envisions an eight-lane lap pool and a leisure pool that would be double the size of the existing one. The leisure pool would feature a zero-depth entry and be a maximum of 9 feet in depth. The leisure pool would also offer a climbing wall approximately 12 feet tall that drops into the water. A waterslide with approximately 12 feet of drop would also be built as part of the leisure pool. The pools would be built in the location of the current six-lane lap pool.Park City officials want to start the work at the Park Meadows facility in the spring with the hope of completing the project in the fall of 2025. There is a possibility the new pools could debut by late in the swimming season of 2025.The existing leisure pool will be kept open during the work, but the existing lap pool will not.Leaders previously set aside $7.5 million in the municipal budget for the work.A rendering supplied by City Hall shows the pools steps from each other and stretching through some of the land outside the building. The leisure pool is shown with the deepest depth at the bottom of the climbing wall and a depth of 3 feet, 6 inches in the area of the bottom of the slide. The area of the zero-depth entry appears largely separated from the rest of the pool with a wall. The planned work at the pool area was one of the highlights of a City Hall-hosted event on Wednesday at Miners Hospital. The gathering provided Parkites an opportunity to learn about the municipal government’s broad work plan, including projects and programs. People at the event perused visual aids and talked to City Hall staffers as they moved between stations. Some in the crowd were interested in improvements that are planned to Homestake Road, a strategically located road connecting Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard, and others spoke to officials about possible amenities at bus stops. There were also people chatting with representatives of the Park City Police Department. The law enforcement agency put two police motorcycles on display. There was also the opportunity for Parkites to provide input about an upcoming update to the municipal General Plan, which is an overarching document that guides growth in the community. Officials placed a board inquiring at what level someone agrees with strategic pillars dating to 2020. People by late in the event had affixed stickers indicating they strongly agree with affordability and equity, environmental leadership and art, culture and the local economy. There was support for sustainable tourism and transportation innovation, the stickers showed. The post Park City wants to make splash with recreation project appeared first on Park Record.
