BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — More federal assistance is on its way to the state after President Joe Biden declared a major disaster relief package following Hurricane Francine. The aid is going to people in many parishes including Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche and others hit by the storm. Congressman Troy Carter introduced the bipartisan Preventing Roadside Deaths Act. The legislation aims to enhance safety by requiring the Department of Transportation to collect and analyze detailed data on accidents involving disabled vehicles and develop a strategic plan. This is in response to an accident two years ago in which three Southern University students were hit and killed by an 18-wheeler in Natchitoches Parish.
