LOGAN, Ohio (WCMH) – A woman will serve at least two decades in prison for raping two children after a Hocking County Court of Common Pleas judge issued her sentence. According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Irene Day was sentenced Wednesday to serve 20-25 years in prison for raping two children in a case that also involves her boyfriend, whose case remains pending. Day, 39, was sentenced on charges of first-degree rape and gross sexual imposition. She had pleaded guilty on Aug. 1 and was originally facing up to 37½ years in prison. Day’s co-defendant, Paul Sebring, was accused of raping two children in 2018, and although court documents confirm the investigation began in 2018, Day was originally uncooperative with police. Police said Hocking County Children’s Services contacted authorities regarding the alleged assault. While an investigator attempted to obtain information from Day, she refused to identify Sebring during an interview. She then reportedly requested to walk outside with the investigator but instead took off running and drove to Logan. The investigator caught up with Day there, but she refused to cooperate and continued to evade the rest of the interview. According to Lt. David Wright of the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office, the victims made statements to a children's services investigator in 2022, resulting in a grand jury hearing for both suspects. Documents state that the two victims, who were seven years old and eight and nine years old, were abused between April and September 2018. Day faced as many as nine total charges, and Sebring still faces up to eight charges, including four counts each of rape and gross sexual imposition, plus one count of failure to register as a sex offender. The first seven charges include a violent predator specification. Sebring’s case is being prosecuted by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. The case was set to begin trial in November, but was canceled this month after a change in defense counsel.
