HONOLULU (KHON2) -- After three straight days of negotiations, union nurses and Kapiolani Medical Center have yet to agree on a new contract. The hospital released a statement shortly before 7:30 a.m., revealing the discussion was "productive." ‘It’s been a nightmare,’ parents say care at Kapiolani is unacceptable due to lockout According to the Hawaii Nurses' Association, discussions revolve around safe patient-to-nurse staffing ratios. It has been a week since the HNA held its 24-hour strike. Following the strike, hospital management responded with a lockout until the latest contract offer was accepted. We are seeing progress and have had productive discussions after three straight days of negotiations with the Hawai‘i Nurses’ Association. We mutually agreed to meet again tomorrow and remain committed to reaching an agreement. Gidget Ruscetta, RN & Chief Operating Officer for Kapiolani Medical Center Twelve members, with the majority of them being nurses, are part of Kapiolani's negotiation team.
