AUSTIN (KXAN) — On a list of the 74 largest U.S. airports by passenger volume, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) ranked No. 10 for the highest change in domestic airfare costs. SmartAsset, a financial technology company, said AUS’s one-year change in domestic airfare was 6.2%, with domestic airfare costs during Q1 of 2024 at $387.58 and Q1 of 2023 at $365.06. However, the change over two years was 22.11%, according to SmartAsset. In 2022, the average domestic airfare was $317.41. Other airports with the highest increases in domestic airfare include: 10.04% - OAK: Metro Oakland International (Oakland, CA) 9.55% - BOI: Boise Air Terminal (Boise, ID) 8.36% - SNA: John Wayne Airport-Orange County (Santa Ana, CA) 8.20% - LAS: Harry Reid International (Las Vegas, NV) 8.12% - BUR: Bob Hope (Burbank, CA) 8.04% - EWR: Newark Liberty International (Newark, NJ) 7.61% - SJC: Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International (San Jose, CA) 6.82% - ANC: Ted Stevens Anchorage International (Anchorage, AK) 6.78% - HNL: Daniel K. Inouye International (Honolulu, HI) SmartAsset said it gathered its data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.
