Class 5A 1. Cherry Creek (3-1) won at Highland Park (Texas), 51-39: The Bruins went into Dallas and handed the Highland Park Scots their first home loss in three years. Junior running back Jayden Fox ran for 206 yards and two TDs, the first giving Creek a 34-17 lead on the Bruins’ first possession of the second half. Jeremiah Hoffman found paydirt from 40 yards out on a reverse two minutes into the fourth quarter for a 44-17 lead. Then the Bruins held on for dear life as the Scots recovered a pair of onside kicks and nearly got their hands on a third after pulling within five at 44-39 with 56 seconds left. Fox’s second TD run, from 34 yards out, put a bow on things with nine seconds left. Senior QB Brady Vodicka hooked up with Hoffman for a 27-yard score in the first quarter and ran in a 6-yard score as part of a 27-17 Creek first half. Next week: vs. No. 10 Pine Creek, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 2. Mountain Vista (4-0) Bye: After rampaging through their first four games with a combined scoring margin of 215-18, the Golden Eagles get a week to recuperate ahead of the second half of the season. Columbine (4-0) won vs. 4A No. 6 Vista Ridge, 42-7: The Rebels chewed up 357 yards on the ground, with the two-headed backfield of senior James Basinger (14 carries, 129 yards, 3 TDs) and junior Mark Snyder (16-136, 2 TDs) both topping 100 yards in a rout. The trio of Azriel Anzo, Oliver Steffen and Will Monroe each had one sack apiece for a Columbine defense that shut out Vista Ridge for the first three quarters while building a 35-0 lead. Next week: at 4A No. 7 Heritage, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 4. Valor Christian (4-0) won at Mullen, 46-20: Chase Hanosh ran in a pair of touchdowns, QB Dawson Olk hooked up with Cash Spence for two scores, and Spence added a 2-yard scoring run as the Eagles claimed their fourth straight double-digit win to start the season. Next week: vs. No. 6 Ralston Valley, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 5. Legend (3-1) Bye: The Titans get their Week 0 bye ahead of a tough matchup with undefeated Castle View next Friday at EchoPark Stadium. Ralston Valley (4-0) won vs. ThunderRidge, 39-2: Sophomore Colton Stratman ran in a pair of touchdowns, junior quarterback Zeke Andrews had one touchdown passing and another on the ground, and the Mustangs defense produced a safety to move to 4-0 for the first time since Matt Loyd’s final year as head coach in 2021. Next week: at No. 4 Valor Christian, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 7. Chatfield (4-0) won vs. Brighton, 23-3: The Chargers defense submitted its most dominant effort of the season, holding the Bulldogs to one first-half field goal to remain unbeaten. It was a 7-3 game last in the second half when Cash Williams found the end zone to give Chatfield a 13-3 halftime lead. It would stay that way into the fourth quarter before the Chargers put it away for good with a field goal and TD. Next week: at Douglas County, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 8. Castle View (4-0) won at Douglas County, 37-16: After falling behind 16-0, the Sabercats ripped off 37 unanswered points to claim the Battle of the Rock for the eighth time in 10 meetings. Seniors Austin Perry (25 carries, 167 yards) and Camden Tobler (15-106) both topped 100 yards on the ground, with the latter scoring three touchdowns. Zach Bitton added an interception for the Castle View defense, which has allowed 29 total points through four games. Next week: at No. 5 Legend, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 9. Fairview (4-0) won at Monarch, 49-0: Quarterback Ki Ellison completed 14 of 15 passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, then found Jordan Rechel for his fourth and final TD pass of the night early in the third quarter as the Knights rolled. Next week: vs. Smoky Hill, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 10. Pine Creek (3-1) won vs. Arapahoe, 34-13: Arapahoe scored a touchdown early in the third quarter to knot the score at 13, but the Eagles responded with three unanswered touchdowns to pull away for their third straight win after starting the season with a loss at No. 4 Valor Christian. Next week: at No. 1 Cherry Creek, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. Class 4A 1. Palmer Ridge (4-0) won at Longmont, 49-14: The Bears rolled up 329 yards on the ground, led by senior Avier Elvira’s 6-carry, 106-yard night, and senior QB Carson Campbell threw a pair of TDs and ran for another to cruise to 4-0 to start the season. Seven different players scored touchdowns for the Bears, who have now won 28 straight regular-season games dating back to the 2021 season. Next week: vs. No. 8 Mesa Ridge, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 2. Broomfield (4-0) won vs. Legacy, 14-13: Colin Torres ran for 162 yards and a pair of touchdowns, the last a 58-yarder that gave the Eagles a 14-0 lead with 9:57 left in the third quarter, and the Broomfield defense did just enough to hold on and claim the Mayor’s Cup. Legacy QB Andrew Gardner found Joey Jewett for a 12-yard TD and Dominic Mezarina connected on two field goals in the second half, but Legacy fell just short of scoring its second come-from-behind win in as many weeks. Next week: vs. Erie, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 3. Montrose (4-0) won vs. Grand Junction Central, 50-14: Elijah Womack ran in four of the Red Hawks’ first five touchdowns as Montrose jumped ahead 36-0 in the third quarter and never looked back. The Red Hawks have now topped 40 points in three of four wins and have outscored opponents by a 175-50 margin. Next week: at Fruita Monument, 6 p.m. Sept. 26. 4. Pueblo West (4-0) Bye: The Cyclones have posted three consecutive 7-5 seasons, but after the first 4-0 start in five years, they appear primed for much more. Next week: at No. 6 Vista Ridge, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 5. Dakota Ridge (3-1) won at 3A No. 3 Pomona, 34-12: The Panthers’ Luis Santana returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, but the Dakota Ridge defense stood tall after that to win the schools’ first meeting on a football field in 21 years. Blake Bishop returned an interception 40-plus yards for the go-ahead score in the second quarter, sparking a 27-point run that all but put the game away entering the fourth. Next week: vs. Cherokee Trail, 7 p.m. Sept. 27 6. Vista Ridge (3-1) lost at 5A No. 3 Columbine, 42-7: The Wolves ran into a 5A buzzsaw in their first loss of the season. The defending 5A champions kept Vista Ridge out of the end zone until the fourth quarter, long after Columbine’s ground-and-pound attack put the game away. Next week: vs. No. 4 Pueblo West, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 7. Heritage (2-2) lost at No. 8 Mesa Ridge, 40-28: In a game that saw the lead change hands three times in the third quarter alone, the Eagles took a 28-27 edge into the final frame but were held scoreless the rest of the way. Next week: vs. 5A No. 3 Columbine, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 8. Mesa Ridge (3-1) won vs. No. 7 Heritage, 40-28: The Grizzlies defense shut out the Eagles over the final 12 minutes and Bryce Riehl threw the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth as Mesa Ridge rebounded from a 19-14 loss at Dakota Ridge to take down a different Jeffco power. Next week: at No. 1 Palmer Ridge, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 9. Riverdale Ridge (4-0) won vs. Thornton, 64-0: The Ravens shut out an opponent for the third time in four games and scored a program-high 64 points to move to 4-0 for the first time in program history. Next week: at Silver Creek, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 10. Grand Junction (4-0) won at Fruita Monument, 28-27 (OT): QB Will Applegate and Drew Marsh connected on three touchdown passes, the last coming in overtime, and Rylan Mulvey drilled the game-winning extra point as the Tigers ended an eight-game losing streak vs. Fruita. Cooper Rowell ran for a TD and found Chris Bennett for two more, the last to take a 27-21 lead in OT, but it wasn’t enough to complete a comeback from down 21-7. Next week: at Durango, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. Class 3A 1. Roosevelt (4-0) won at Rifle, 47-0. Next week: vs. No. 6 Windsor, 7 p.m. Sept. 27. 2. Holy Family (2-1) won at Lewis-Palmer, 56-21.
