PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-- The City of Pittsfield will be holding a public meeting to share information on the Bel Air Dam project. Representatives from the City of Pittsfield, AECOM, the engineering firm working with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and the Office of Dam Safety (ODS) will be presenting updates on the project design, including dam removal, sediment removal and habitat and stream restoration. They will also take questions and address concerns about impact from construction and plans for traffic changes, air quality monitoring and disposal of contaminated materials. State now plans to lease space for new Roderick Ireland Courthouse in Springfield The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 5:30-7:30pm at the Polish Falcon Clublocated at 32 Bel Air Avenue in Pittsfield. The Bel Air Dam is on Pontoosuc Brook, a tributary to the West Branch of the Housatonic River. Originally constructed in 1832 used for power generation for a woolen mill. It has been unused since the 1940's. It is classified by the state as a HIGH (Class I) Hazard Potential dam.
