INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis woman is in jail accused of producing and distributing child porn internationally. According to court records filed in Marion County, the investigation began with a tip to Crime Stoppers that a man was convicted for possession of child porn nearly 4,000 miles away in the United Kingdom. Shane Scott The caller told Crime Stoppers that a man named Shane Scott was in a London prison after being found guilty of possessing indecent images of children. According to a preliminary affidavit, IMPD confirmed that conviction with the Secret Service and this week arrested 24-year-old Olivia Cannon for allegedly producing child pornography in Indianapolis. "This is a global problem and the internet has made it easy to distribute this kind of material," said Beth White with the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. Beth White said the case illustrates how widespread the illegal possession of child porn has become. Olivia Cannon "This is such an insidious problem and because of the internet going worldwide, law enforcement is just struggling to keep up and so we are so appreciative when law enforcement is able to stop this kind of behavior," said White. In this case, police claim Cannon confessed to taking videos and pictures of young kids, who were not her children, engaged in sexual acts at an apartment complex on Indy's northeast side and sending them overseas to Scott. At one point Cannon admitted the parent of one of the victims caught her in the act and that the mother physically assaulted Cannon, but she did not immediately report the crime. "You've got to step up and say something to protect these children and to stop the behavior before it can be distributed all around the world," said White. Because of the internet's global reach, White urges everyone to speak up if they believe specific children are being victimized. "Staying ahead of it is so hard, but we have to because we know people are being hurt," said White. Marion County prosecutors were given a 72-hour extension to file formal charges in this case. Cannon is due back in court early next week.
