(KTXL) – A California family was surprised when their beloved cat Rayne Beau, who had vanished on a trip to Yellowstone National Park, somehow trekked around 800 miles back toward home before being found. The couple, Susanne and Benny Anguiano, told KSBW in Salinas that they had taken their cats on previous trips, but that this time, something scared Rayne Beau and he ran off into the forest in early June. The Anguianos spent their days searching for Rayne Beau but ultimately had to make the decision to return home without him. Marmot hitches ride in vehicle from Yosemite "That was the hardest day because I felt like I was abandoning him," Susanne Anguiano told the station. They didn't realize that Rayne Beau may have already been heading home on his own. Two months after that June trip, a woman in Roseville, outside Sacramento, found Rayne Beau and took him to the local SPCA. The SPCA was able to get information from his microchip and contact the owners. "This lady who found him and rescued him, she's just an angel. She even said he looked like he was not going to make it much longer," Susanne said. From Yellowstone to Roseville is about 835 miles. Another 200 miles separates Roseville from the cat's home in Salinas. The journey by foot would have required more than 10 miles per day, it's not clear if someone gave the cat a lift back toward California. "Rayne lost 40% of his body weight...left 13+ lbs and was 8 lbs. when we took him to (the) vet two days after getting Rayne back," Benny Anguiano commented on the photo. "His blood sugar and protein levels were near starvation mode." Not too long after the visit to the vet, Rayne Beau was back in the comfort of his home with his owners and his other cat companions.
