Some improvements are taking shape as the pesky coastal storm system that's been nearby all week pulls away. It's been much drier today, with only a few spotty showers and light drizzle found west of I-95 and DC. Clouds have still been holding tough to the west, but some sunshine is breaking out to the east. We'll continue to see the clouds break up from east to west through the rest of the day, leading to slightly warmer temperatures. Highs today will peak in the mid-70s to lower 80s, with the warmest readings found where the most sunshine is. Continued clearing tonight will give us low temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s, with some patchy fog in the river valleys. The week and the summer season will end on a beautiful note, sunshine and warmth on tap for Friday. All of the added sunshine will push us to our warmest point this week, with peak readings in the lower to mid-80s area-wide tomorrow afternoon. A backdoor cold front is still set to arrive on Saturday, but now it's expected to bring some clouds and the chance for isolated showers. This chance for rain will hold off until the evening, allowing temperatures to push 80 degrees one more time. Those to the west have the highest chance of soggy weather Saturday night, while only spotty showers and some drizzle is likely to the east closer to DC. This disturbance departs on Sunday, with cooler air rushing in as fall begins. Afternoon high temperatures will fall slightly, only reaching the lower 70s under a partly cloudy sky on Monday. Overnight lows won't be much cooler, but they will still drop into the 50s. Our next round of more active weather will be through the middle of next week, but the exact details are still a little uncertain. As of right now, showers will return to the forecast as early as Tuesday along a warm front, with next Wednesday and Thursday the soggiest with more widespread scattered showers on tap.
