Atlanta is a city filled with opportunities that have given its many citizens the chance to become entrepreneurs. A perfect example of this comes from the story of Kelsey Maynor, a Georgia native and Georgia State University alumnus. Mr. Maynor has several successful businesses and even helped Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens with his 2022Kelsey Maynor. Some of Maynor’s most prominent businesses are Courtside ATL, a unique basketball experience that comes to you, Atlanta Breakfast Club, and the new bar Upper Room. He has not only started his businesses, but he has also tried to help others start small businesses within the city with his work as an advocate for them to help navigate the business world with Invest Atlanta. Maynor started his business journey in college at Georgia State University, where he would get two degrees, a bachelor’s in sociology and another in African American Studies of Humanities. Sometime after college, Maynor would work as the General Operations manager with KCE Bars and help oversee the opening of multiple restaurants such as Cafe Circa, Aurum, Krave, and Kapture. He would help design the restaurant and hire and train the restaurant staff. Working with KCE Bars would bring Maynor’s already thorough understanding of the hospitality industry to another level. After working with KCE Bars, Mr. Maynor would help oversee the opening of one of his friends’ restaurants called “Atlanta Breakfast Club.”Atlanta Breakfast Club opened in 2015 and quickly became one of Atlanta’s most popular breakfast restaurants. Mr. Maynor made sure to train the staff to give customers a one-of-a-kind experience when dining at Atlanta Breakfast Club. The food and service at Atlanta Breakfast Club would be featured on Food Network andPhoto Credit: Niya PaigeTravel Channel, and eventually opened two more locations. After helping open and run multiple restaurants within the city open, Mr. Maynor decided to open his bar. The Upper Room is a new bar that just opened in Ponce City Market, this bar is nice place to sit down and unwind in between shopping in Ponce City Market. The bar’s location is purposeful; around the bar are multiple booths selling different products, such as Vinyl, vintage clothes, and custom hats. This bar is an amazing place for those looking around the shop and having a casual drink. The new The Upper Room has done well and has allowed multiple customers at Ponce City Market to relax since opening. While hospitality is one of Maynor’s passions, it’s not his only. Maynor would explore creating a business around his other passion, Basketball. Maynor wanted to create a way to make basketball fun for those who aren’t good at the sport and those who don’t understand the rules. So, he would create Courtside ATL, a mobile basketball experience Maynor would build himself. It all started when he bought a school bus and completely renovated the inside with leather couches and two flat-screen tvs. After renovating the inside, he would weld two basketball hoops onto the bus, which allowed for a fun, quick shoot-out game, and then he would get the bus wrapped. “Courtside ATL” can be seen throughout Atlanta, whether at a Birthday Party, GSU Homecoming, or “Atlanta StreetWear Market.”Photo Credit: Niya PaigePhoto Credit: Niya PaigeMaynor’s story is inspirational and filled with hard work and dedication toward success. It’s clear to see Maynor’s ambition, drive, and dedication to his work. His passion for creating connections and memorable experiences goes beyond the dining scene with his mobile basketball experience, “Courtside ATL.” Kelsey’s commitment to hospitality exemplifies someone who is not only caring but passionate about their ventures. This story is part of the Digital Equity Local Voices Fellowship Lab.  The Lab initiative is made possible with support from Comcast NBCUniversal. The post Kelsey Maynor: Atlanta entrepreneur’s journey to success appeared first on The Atlanta Voice.
